In the newest edition of The Grapevine (Winter 2011) Melbourne, Victoria.

“The Liquor Control Reform Amendment Act 2011
introduces a new offence for adults supplying alcohol
to a minor (a person under the age of 18 years) in
a private home without parental consent. The new
offence carries the same penalty that liquor licensees
face for supplying alcohol to a minor–a maximum fine
of more than $7000.
Any adult who intends to provide alcohol to a minor in
their home must now have the consent of the minor’s
parent(s) first. Consent can be provided verbally or in
writing, but the adult must be confident that it is given
by the minor’s parent or legal guardian.
The new laws aim to involve parents in the way in which
their children access alcohol. It is important for parents
to have a conversation with their children about the
dangers of alcohol abuse, which can cause serious
harm to brain development in adolescence.”

This has a massive effect on our customers that throw 18th birthday parties at home or in community halls if alcohol is available and consists of a massive liability on behalf of the hosts.

It’s a good time to think about whether you should have your event at a licensed premises (and let them take the liability) or to organise some kind of wristband system (although this is worthless if people swap drinks, which is pretty much inevitable).

Obviously we’re biased, but we know that having entertainment, whether it is one of our mobile DJs or bands or anything else for that matter means that there is a focus for the night other then just getting drunk.

Each year in Boston, Massachusetts, a group of the world’s most respected business experts attempts to discover the small enterprises that will shape the future of business and can make a difference on a global scale. Every year they receive many nominations, agonize over whom to choose, and ultimately must decide which businesses have what it takes
The businesses that are selected each year are placed in to an accelerated development program that has been designed to allow their organization to become a global contributor in a fraction of the usual time.
The purpose of the program, officially called Massachusetts Institute of Technology’s Entrepreneurial Masters Program, is to identify, bring together and train the next generation of entrepreneurial giants.
I am proud to announce that today, Tuesday 20 April, 2010 Griffin Alliance has been chosen for MIT’s Entrepreneurial Masters Program.
Starting in just 5 weeks time, we will begin working with a group of 60 other businesses selected from around the world over the next 3 years to become a company that impacts the global community.
We will listen, learn, act decisively and be unstoppable in the face of all that stands before us.
We will commit to crafting our organization into a future giant, and we will move forward with courage in the face of the unknown.
It’s going to be an amazing 3 years here, and we are ready for the challenges that stand before us!

We use the principles of permission marketing in most of our client facing interactions. If you are not sure what permission marketing is then we have produced a primer:

1. Opt In (Permission to market)

Your clients have to request to join in a conversation that includes what is happening at your venue.

The system you make for adding new members must allow a Yes or a No. It must also allow for easy opt-outs.

2. Relevant

Once you have members that want to receive messages, you need to supply them with information that is relevant to THEM. Always keep in mind that what is beneficial to your hotel or nightclub may not be what is beneficial or relevant to your member. Always stop and think if what you are about to send adds any value to your clients.

3. Anticipated

If you have a member that signs up then respect their privacy and message them only when it is relevant to them. Spamming messages, emails and SMS will quickly make all of your messages seem irrelevant to the member. You want your members to enjoy getting a message from you rather than dreading it.

Why does Griffin Alliance use Permission Marketing

1. Loyalty

Loyal customers want to be a part of your community. In the good times and the bad.

2. Price Insensitivity

Your competitors will always offer cheaper drinks, expensive entertainment and new refurbishments. Loyal customers will be less prone to switching for venue to venue.

3. Low cost of advertising

Membership databases, Social Network Profiles and email/SMS updates are a very cheap way of informing your members about what is happening compared to traditional Print and Advertising media.

Let me know your thoughts, email:
